Abstract

The project will support the development of experiential project assignments across a range of disciplines and course contexts, creating new opportunities for undergraduate students to engage in real-world problem-based learning. The project will leverage a third party platform, Riipen, to facilitate partnerships with community organizations and businesses, aligning with the institutional priorities related to the new Integrated Learning Experience framework developed by the Provost’s Task force. The project will receive support from the Centre for Teaching and Learning at UTSC, a division where there are an exceptionally high number of visible minority students who will benefit from real-world experience and network contacts to compete against the obstacles of stereotypes they face when searching for work. Within this initiative, UTSC will provide support to their instructors in design and implementation of experiential assignments through Riipen, and will coordinate a research study to evaluate the project outcomes.
